The First Day of Comic Con Astana 2026 Sets Historic Attendance Record
The first day of Comic Con Astana 2026 set a historic attendance record, 24KZ reports. Around 16,000 people attended the event, marking an absolute record for the opening day in the festival's history. The large-scale event for fans of movies, TV series, comics, video games, and cosplay took place at two major venues in the capital – the Alau Ice Palace and Barys Arena.
Among the headliners was Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role as Jaime Lannister in the TV series Game of Thrones.
The first day of Comic Con Astana 2026 broke the attendance record, attracting around 16,000 visitors. This figure is unprecedented for the opening day in the festival's history, confirming its status as a key geek culture event in Central Asia. Tourists, experts, and special guests from more than 20 countries arrived in the capital.
Darina Demyan, Managing Director of Astana Tourism, Tourism Development Center LLP:
- Event tourism is one of the key drivers of the city's economic development. When Comic Con takes place, we see a sharp increase in hotel bookings, higher demand for air and rail services, and increased spending at restaurants and cafes.
The scale of the event is reflected in the geography of its visitors. The capital is welcoming guests from all regions of Kazakhstan, while also attracting a large flow of international tourists, primarily from the CIS countries.
- We don't have festivals of this scale in Kyrgyzstan. The country is very beautiful and large, with a vast territory. The buildings are beautiful, and the city is beautiful.
- This is our first time seeing Astana. On the very first day after we arrived, we walked around the city, and we liked the largest shopping mall, Mega, the most. We went there and did some shopping.
- I am originally from Arkalyk. I have been waiting for this event for three years in a row. And every time, it brings unforgettable emotions.
Comic Con Astana 2026 will continue through August 9. Visitors can look forward to meetings with international stars of film and cosplay, autograph sessions, new shows, competitions, and many other events.
