Five People Lose Over 15.5 Million Tenge in Astana Marketplace Scam
Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office has warned the public about a new scam in which fraudsters promise people profits from selling goods through online marketplaces, 24KZ reports.
In Astana, five people fell victim to a woman who promised them investment returns but kept their money for herself.
She initially offered training on how to use an online marketplace before persuading participants to invest in purchasing goods. She promised to return their investments with a profit but instead used the money for her own purposes.
The victims lost a total of more than 15.5 million tenge.
The court sentenced the woman to six years in prison, taking her previous conviction into account. The victims' compensation claims were upheld.
