Kazakhstan Introduces QazETA Electronic Travel Authorisation for 85 Countries
Kazakhstan is introducing a new electronic travel authorization system for foreign nationals, QazETA. It will apply to citizens of 85 countries eligible for visa-free entry to the republic. Travelers must submit an online application no later than 72 hours before departure. The procedure is free of charge, and the issued authorization is valid for 180 days, 24KZ reports.
The system will be introduced in stages. For now, travelers are being informed about the requirement at Aktau Airport and four road border checkpoints, without being denied entry. Starting in January, the measures will also apply at Astana and Almaty airports, and from March at all other border checkpoints. Until July 1, 2027, obtaining the authorization will be recommended but not mandatory. After that date, electronic authorization will become a requirement for entry. Certain categories of foreign nationals are exempt from the requirement. These include children under 16 and adults over 65, those holding a valid Kazakhstan entry visa or residence permit, as well as transit passengers who do not leave the airport transit zone.
Damir Kozhakhmetov, Vice Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan:
- The QazETA system is primarily designed for foreign nationals, allowing them to register in advance by submitting their personal data and completing biometric verification. This will enable them to go through security screening and border control more seamlessly upon arrival, helping optimize their time at the airport.
