ICESCO to Support Archaeological Research at Kazakhstan's Zhetyasar Site

Experts from the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) will assist Kazakh archaeologists in studying the Zhetyasar archaeological complex, reports 24KZ.

The ancient architectural complex is located in the Kyzylorda Region and is included on the World Cultural Heritage List. It comprises 60 ancient settlements, many of which have yet to be thoroughly explored. Preserving and promoting Zhetyasar requires a systematic effort by researchers.

The issue was discussed at the Second Regional Seminar on the Preservation of Cultural Heritage in the Islamic World. Over three days, experts from five countries gathered in Almaty to share their experience in heritage protection, restoration and preparing historical sites for inclusion on international lists. The seminar brought together representatives from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

According to experts, Zhetyasar has significant archaeological potential. Projects of this scale require coordinated efforts from archaeologists, historians and international organizations.
