Tokayev officially opens the Games of the Future in Astana

The Head of State took part in the opening ceremony of the Games of the Future 2026 international tournament, 24KZ reports, citing the Akorda press service.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev attended the official opening ceremony of the Games of the Future 2026 international multisport tournament, held in Astana.

The ceremony, held at Barys Arena, was attended by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and other distinguished guests.

In his address, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the brotherly nations, distinguished guests, and athletes who had come to Kazakhstan to participate in the international tournament.

According to the President, the Games of the Future, which combine the energy of sport, the power of intellect, and the vast potential of the digital era, perfectly align with the shared agenda for constructive development.

«This tournament brings together what once seemed incompatible. At its core is a balanced and realistic harmony between the physical and virtual worlds. Today, this arena is filled mainly with young people. Your knowledge, talent, hard work, and determination are the strong and unshakable foundation of tomorrow. The road leading to new heights of progress will not be easy. But every journey becomes easier when you travel side by side with like-minded people and trusted friends. Every participant in these Games has undergone serious preparation and has rightfully earned the opportunity to represent their team. I am confident that throughout the competition you will demonstrate your very best qualities, make new friends, and develop many promising projects together. After all, the main mission of the Games of the Future is to truly unite people and inspire them to achieve new accomplishments. I am convinced that the Games of the Future will become another golden bridge of unity, friendship, and solidarity among our nations», - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

Concluding his speech, the Head of State wished the athletes good luck and expressed his sincere appreciation to the organizers, partners, referees, coaches, industry experts, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to preparing this remarkable sporting event.

The opening ceremony also featured a video address by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the tournament participants.

The event also included remarks by Dan Merkley, CEO of the Games of the Future.

The audience then enjoyed a spectacular theatrical performance and a concert featuring leading Kazakh performers.

From July 29 to August 9, Astana is hosting the international tournament for the first time, bringing together esports, traditional sports, and modern technologies. More than 800 athletes from 34 countries are expected to compete this year.

The competitions in Astana will be held across eight disciplines: phygital football, phygital basketball, phygital martial arts, phygital shooter, phygital dance, Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and PUBG: Battlegrounds.
