Presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia hold talks in restricted attendance

Presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin, held talks in a restricted format, reports «24KZ», citing the Akorda press service.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan:

- Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, first of all, I would like to warmly welcome you to our capital on your state visit. This event is of great importance in terms of developing the strategic partnership and allied relations between our countries. I also believe it is highly significant from the standpoint of ensuring security and stability across the Eurasian continent, since our countries essentially form the foundation of this vast Eurasian space. In this regard, I would like to highlight two points.

First, our joint statement on the seven principles concerning the strategic partnership and allied relations between our countries. The number seven itself is a very good number, and the word ‘principles’ is even more meaningful. The document itself is highly original. I will speak about it in more detail during the press conference. I personally worked on this document and introduced amendments. I believe it will become part of the history of cooperation between our countries and will carry great significance.

Second, the signing of agreements related to the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. I would already like to express my gratitude to you for your personal support of this project. I believe there is no need to elaborate on the strategic importance of the agreement on the construction of the nuclear power plant, as this is already clear to everyone.

We are friends and brothers. We have much in common, including a rich shared history, cultural traditions, and mentality. We discussed this in great detail yesterday during our informal meeting and recalled many historical moments.

I believe this meeting is also of great importance for Russia. We will work in the fundamental interests of our peoples, who are interested in our states living in friendship and cooperation. We all need peace in order to continue developing further.”

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia:

- Dear Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich, First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for the invitation. We had the pleasure of hosting you on a state visit last year. At that time, much was done to take additional steps toward deepening our strategic partnership, which is indeed based on strong traditions of friendship and mutual respect developed over centuries of coexistence between our peoples, including within a single state.

I am confident that our work during these days will also be highly productive. Thank you very much for yesterday evening, which we were able to spend together in an informal atmosphere and discuss many important and promising areas of our cooperation.

It is also pleasant that our delegations are here during the festive days. In Russia, Kurban Bayram is celebrated by citizens who practice Islam. I know that this holiday is also celebrated in Kazakhstan.
